Hip-Hop Paradox

Hip-Hop Paradox

The Hip-Hop nation has earned negative attention because of the behavior of women and in the music videos. Women subject themselves to willingly disgrace and allow to be abused on stage. Women disgrace themselves because of the way they dress in videos and the way the act. Young black women are seen shaking their nearly naked rumps in music videos. "As much as the sexploitation of young black women is necessary to the 'keep it real' mantra of hip hop artists, corporate bottom lines, and marketing strategies, we must acknowledge our own role in this troubling relationship." Because of theses half naked women people (men) are buying the CD’s and the women are being paid.
I think if we didn’t have half naked women in videos there would be less people to buy the music or watch the video. The production of cds would go down and but artist into debt.

I agree with what you are saying. But life is a business. As much as I hate saying it that seems to be what has to happen. In order to get the general appeal nowadays, women have to be dressed scantily. It does portray women as being vulnerable and as capable as men. I think that if society would change its mind set on why music is good, then we would be heading in the right direction. Music shouldn't be about seeing little clothes on women, or seeing how much we own, or how well someone can shake their ass. It just be based on talent, as I think several of us have mentioned in our blogs.

Remember, you LISTEN to music, you don't watch it. Teh music video definitely had an impact on rap, but the MUSIC and what makes it GOOD is something very different than a video.

There is much to be said about how MTV/BET and other outlets have changed the sound of mrap music.

I think that the arists music needs to be held up to better standards. Too many times they just throw 'something' out there, add some booty and a fresh beat to get noticed. I you take away the women, the song usually cant stand on its own. The women should know better and want to be respected. All they see is the paper, and that is a sad thing.
